A chassis pool is a facility or location used to store chassis in or around terminals all over the country (marine terminals, rail yards, etc.) for the daily use of any intermodal chassis by motor carriers.
There are two types of chassis pools including the neutral chassis pool and the cooperative chassis pool. The neutral chassis pools are chassis that can be leased by shipping companies along with truckers and are owned by third parties. On the other hand, the cooperative chassis pool is owned by shipping companies and combined to save costs.
