China’s Jan-Mar steel exports soar 53.2% YoY
China’s finished steel exports totalled 20.08 million tonnes over January-March, jumping by 53.2% on year, according to the latest statistics from the country’s General Administration of Customs (GACC) on April 13.
Gloomy sentiment drags China iron ore prices to 3-mth low
Chinese prices for imported iron ore started weakening from midweek this week, with Mysteel SEADEX 62% Australian Fines sliding to $118.55/dmt CFR Qingdao on Thursday, a low since January 9 or down by a total of $3.2/dmt from two days earlier. Market sources blamed the price dip on a worsening pessimism in the market about ore demand for the foreseeable future.
China BF capacity use hits 22-mth high of 91.8%
The capacity utilization rate of blast furnaces operated by 247 Chinese steel mills under Mysteel’s weekly survey had risen for a 14th consecutive week of April 7-13 to 91.8%, or a 22-month high since early June 2021, as most Chinese steelmakers showed little inclination to lower their output.
China mills’ imported iron ore use steady, stocks grow
The daily consumption of imported iron ore sintering fines at the 64 Chinese steelmakers under Mysteel’s survey remained largely steady at 575,000 tonnes/day on average over April 6-12, down by a minuscule 5,300 t/d on week after a two-week rise. Meanwhile, stocks of these fines at the sampled mills grew further.
World’s 2022 crude stainless output falls 5.2% YoY
Total production of crude stainless steel worldwide reached 55.3 million tonnes in 2022, falling by 5.2% from the previous year, according to new data released by the Brussels-based International Stainless Steel Forum (ISSF).
