First Android Xr Apps Arrive After Samsung Galaxy Xr Launch

Samsung recently launched the long-awaited XR headset, the first device to run on Google’s new Android XR platform. As excitement builds, a wave of apps and games is on the way. Built using Unity 6, they’re set to bring the mixed-reality experience to life from day one.

Google Maps XR Opens Up a New Way to Explore

The first big app is Google Maps XR. This app will transform the usual maps app into a full 3D experience. Thanks to something called “Immersive View,” you can practically step inside these digital places and look around like you’re actually standing there. It’s a massive step forward for exploring virtually, blending real-world accuracy with smooth, natural interaction.

NFL Pro Era Brings Football to Virtual Reality

NFL Pro Era, made by StatusPRO, is the first officially licensed NFL game built for virtual reality. It drops players right onto the field, letting them experience what it’s like to play under the bright stadium lights. The game runs on Android XR but also works on Meta Quest, PlayStation VR, and Windows, showing how developers are making sure XR experiences reach as many players as possible.

Owlchemy Labs Pushes Deeper Into Mixed Reality

Another major launch is Inside [JOB], a fresh mixed-reality experience from Owlchemy Labs. The studio, known for fun hits like Job Simulator and Vacation Simulator, is using this new title to show off what’s possible with Android XR. It continues the team’s playful, hands-on approach but with even more ways to interact with the virtual world around you.

“Unity’s support of Android XR made it really easy for us to get started,” said Andrew Eiche, CEO of Owlchemy Labs. “We were able to bring some of our biggest games to Android XR in about a week, which helped us reach more players without a ton of extra work. That time savings also let us build something completely new with Inside [JOB].”

Samsung’s Project Moohan Becomes the Galaxy XR

Samsung’s headset, currently known under the codename Project Moohan, is expected to debut as the Samsung Galaxy XR. It’s set to be the main device for Android XR, a platform designed to work across everything from standalone headsets to AR glasses.

But with Unity 6 now fully supporting Android XR, developers can quickly update their old projects or create brand-new ones for the platform.

This means that the Galaxy XR did not come empty. It arrived with a strong lineup of immersive apps and games ready to go, marking the start of a new chapter for Android in mixed reality.
