Sony is finally expanding its newest software update, Android 16, to more of its recent Xperia phones. The Xperia 1 VII got the update way back in September. It’s been a slow wait since then, but now two more popular models, the Xperia 1 VI and the Xperia 10 VI, are finally getting their turn.

The Update Won’t Hit Everyone at Once
Don’t panic if you don’t see the update right away, as it’s coming out in waves. Depending on where you live, you might have to wait a few more days. If you’re tired of waiting, you can always check yourself. Just go to Settings, then System, then Advanced, and tap Software Update.
Keep in mind, the Android 16 file is big, about 1GB to 2GB. It’s smart to use a stable Wi-Fi connection to download it. Also, make sure your battery is charged to at least 30% so nothing stops the installation halfway through.
Just One More Phone to Go
Sony is almost done with its Android 16 rollout. Only four Xperia phones qualify for the update, and three have already received it. The final one, the Xperia 10 VII, is expected to get Android 16 by early November. Once that happens, Sony will be among the first major phone makers, after Google, to finish updating all eligible models.
Eligible Xperia phones:
- Xperia 1 VII
- Xperia 1 VI
- Xperia 10 VI
- Xperia 10 VII
Pending update:
- Xperia 10 VII
Already updated:
- Xperia 1 VII
- Xperia 1 VI
- Xperia 10 VI
You Get Updates for Longer Now
The phones getting Android 16 were all released in 2024 or later. This is important because they fall under Sony’s better software promise, which now guarantees three major Android updates.
That’s a noticeable improvement over their old policy, which only offered two. This new deal means phones like the Xperia 1 VI will likely get updates up to Android 17, while the even newer Xperia 1 VII could stay current all the way through Android 19.
Staying on Track
Sony is clearly focused on keeping its new phones up-to-date. They are on pace to finish the Android 16 rollout before most of their competitors.
