Xiaomi has announced a new software update for the Xiaomi 17 Pro series, adding several interactive features to the secondary display. According to the company’s HyperOS Weibo post, the rollout introduces dynamic avatars, real-time translation, five live wallpapers, and two handheld games.

Users can now set animated profile photos on the back screen, with new bright-style templates arriving by mid-November. A conversation translation function lets users speak in Chinese on the main display while showing translated text on the rear panel.
Fresh visuals and handheld games
The update also brings five live wallpapers themed around technology, nature, and pets, as well as two games — Plants vs. Zombies and Snowman Sokoban. These can be accessed by manually updating the Entertainment Box from the app store.
Xiaomi earlier confirmed that the rear display will remain a key design focus for its next-generation devices, with new features planned monthly. Both the 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max use TCL Huaxing panels, measuring 6.3 inches and 6.9 inches, respectively, with up to 3500 nits peak brightness and Xiaomi Dragon Crystal Glass protection.
Rear screen now more useful
The new rear screen on the Xiaomi 17 Pro is not only about looks but also about real use. It adds more life to the user’s daily phone time and gives a more vivid feel when the phone is idle or on a desk.
The firm aims to turn the back screen into a tool for both play and work, not just a mirror or clock. Users can now set cute loops, tiny pets, and light art forms as live images. The team said more upgrades will come next month.
The new games help test the speed and touch of the back panel. Each one runs well and uses the full area of the mini display. The goal, per Xiaomi, is to give a “soft joy” to users who wish for light fun in their spare time. The firm is also adding minor sound effects to make the feel more real.
For now, the patch is rolling out in phases, with more devices will get this update in the coming days. Users can check the update tab in the HyperOS setup to find the update. Xiaomi said that all devices will have the update by mid-November.
