JA Solar delivers 1.1 GW DeepBlue 4.0 Pro modules for animal husbandry + PV projects in Tibet
Vertically integrated solar module manufacturer JA Solar has announced that it has supplied 1.1 GW of n-type DeepBlue 4.0 Pro modules for 2 animal husbandry and PV complementary projects. These projects are located in Angduo Township, Mangkang County and Gongjue Township, Latuo County in the Tibet Autonomous Region. The company calls the Angduo Township project the largest animal husbandry + PV project under construction in the world.
JA Solar says that the DeepBlue 4.0 Pro modules, whose reliability was recently demonstrated at an outdoor installation in Mohe, were chosen because of their suitability for the harsh conditions of Tibet. They have been installed at a similar project in the region in Chamdo and have been grid-connected since November 2023. The company said that it delivered these modules a month ahead of schedule despite the challenges faced given the high altitude and remote location of the projects.
JA Solar recently reported total module shipments of 38 GW for H1 2024, driven by the overseas markets (see Overseas Markets Led JA Solar’s H1 2024 Module Shipments).
Huasun supplies 1.8 GW modules for CGDG’s Xinjiang project
Heterojunction (HJT) manufacturer Huasun Energy has announced that it has delivered 1.8 GW of HJT modules for China Green Development Group’s (CGDG) project. The company had entered into an agreement with CGDG in September 2023 for the supply of the said modules for CGDG’s solar power plants. The 4 GW project located in Ruoqiang, Xinjiang, deemed to be the largest HJT solar PV plant in the world, is being built for a total investment of RMB 14.5 billion ($1.98 billion). At 1.8 GW, Huasun’s HJT modules account for about 45% of the plant’s capacity.
Huasun recently announced that it has been selected by the SPIC as a supplier for n-type HJT and tandem PV cells and modules in 2024 (see China Solar PV News Snippets).
China’s 1st semi-transparent perovskite solar plant online
A collaborative effort between the State Grid Gansu Electric Power Research Institute and Datang Gansu Power Generation Company New Energy Branch, China’s first semi-transparent perovskite solar project is now online and connected to the grid. The project is located at the Wuwei Solar Technology Demonstration Station in Gansu Province. The release states that the project used photolithography to pattern the perovskite active layer to convert standard perovskite cells into semi-transparent cells. It said further that the researchers optimized the propagation path of light within the cell, increasing light absorption efficiency and enhancing photoelectric conversion performance by precisely controlling exposure time, depth, and other parameters. The research team plans to monitor the performance of these under outdoor conditions and continue improving them.
Qn-SOLAR’s 3 GW TOPCon solar cell fab starts trial production
Solar cell and module manufacturer Qn-SOLAR has announced that its new TOPCon solar cell facility has started trial production of n-type high-efficiency cells. This manufacturing facility is part of base located in Dangyang City, Hubei Province, which will include a smart PV manufacturing project and a large-scale renewable energy base. The PV project will be constructed in 2 phases, including 5 GW high-efficiency TOPCon solar cell, 5 GW module, and 10 GW PV material manufacturing lines. The first 2 GW of the 5 GW module manufacturing project, was completed in 2022. Recently, the company completed the trial production of the first 3 GW phase of its 5 GW TOPCon cell project. QnSolar stated that the Dangyang base is its second production base with n-type high-efficiency cell capacity, following its manufacturing base in Xinyi, Jiangsu Province.
In July of 2023, Qn-SOLAR said it targets to reach 83 GW of total solar cell production capacity in China by the end of 2024 (see China Solar PV News Snippets).
GEPIC starts 3 GW PV plant construction in Tengger Desert Base
Gansu Electric Power Investment Group Co., Ltd. (GEPIC) recently held the groundbreaking ceremony for its 3 GW solar power project in the Liangzhou District of the Tengger Desert Base. This solar plant is part of GEPIC’s 6 GW renewable energy project at the desert base. The company plans to use the whole 6 GW capacity (12 TWh annually) for its own use, valued at RMB 3.3 billion ($463.7 million) per year. The total investment on the company’s part is about RMB 30 billion ($4.21 billion) in this facility which will include 3 GW of wind power, 3 GW of solar, supported by 4h energy storage.
