Germany’s latest rooftop solar PV auction, conducted on October 1, 2023, was massively oversubscribed even though the agency awarded allotted 191 MW for this round, said the Federal Network Agency or Bundesnetzagentur.
Against 191 MW offered, it received 184 bids with a combined 373 MW volume. The agency selected 88 winning bids to award 191 MW. This capacity needs to come up on rooftops of buildings and noise barriers.
Projects between 1 MW and up to 20 MW capacity were admitted to this round. A total of 64 projects had an installed capacity of up to 2 MW. The largest project bid had a volume of 17 MW.
The lowest and highest winning bids ranged from €0.0880/kWh and €0.0998/kWh, against the ceiling of €0.1125/kWh, while the weighted average winning bid was €0.0958/kWh.
In the previous auction round for this segment held in June 2023, the weighted average was determined as €0.1018/kWh (see Oversubscribed Rooftop PV Auction In Germany).
A happy Bundesnetzagentur President Klaus Müller said, “The bidding date was almost twice oversubscribed, and the strong competition resulted in falling award values. The regional distribution is also pleasing: at least one contract was awarded in every federal state.”
A majority of awarded projects with 27 MW is located in North Rhine-Westphalia, followed by 25 MW in Lower Saxony, 21 MW in Bavaria and 20 MW in Baden-Württemberg.
The next round of rooftop solar tender is scheduled for February 1, 2024.
