China Solar PV News Snippets: Longi Among China’s Esg Exemplary Enterprises & More

Astronergy’s ASTRO N7 modules pass RETC’s UVID220 test; AIKO wins WFEO-CEE award for carbon neutrality; CNBM plans 300 MW CdTe solar glass factory in Shaanxi; Xiamen C&D takes over Suntech’s management.

LONGi among China’s ESG Exemplary Enterprises

The 2nd China ESG Exemplary Enterprises list announced by China Media Group lists LONGi Green Energy as one of the 8 awarded companies. One of the world’s largest solar manufacturers, LONGi figures among names such as China Post Group, China Southern Power Grid, and China Huaneng Group. LONGi says it was the only representative from the photovoltaic (PV) sector to be named and ESG exemplary enterprise. The company highlighted its sustainable development goal of providing affordable clean energy for all, integrating sustainability into its strategies and operations.

Earlier this month, LONGi announced that the Longfei Wood Products Factory Solar Power Plant, said to be China’s first HPBC 2.0 distributed solar power project, was completed and successfully connected to the grid (see China Solar PV News Snippets).

Astronergy passes RETC’s UVID220 test standard

Chint Group subsidiary Astronergy has announced its ASTRO N7 modules have passed RETC’s UVID220 testing standard. During the internationally recognized test, ASTRO N7 modules were exposed to UV220 radiation (220 kWh/m2), which is 15 times the intensity of conventional UV15 certification standards. The modules demonstrated a degradation rate of less than 2%, successfully meeting RETC’s requirements. Astronergy revealed that all its ASTRO N series modules are undergoing UVID performance testing. For UV60 radiation (60 kWh/m2), the degradation rate was only 0.7%, while under the highly rigorous UV120 conditions (120 kWh/m2), the degradation remained impressively low at 1.2%.

On Day 1 of the TaiyangNews High Efficiency Solar Technologies 2024 Conference, Astronergy’s Product Solution Manager Sibin Yang said its strategy is to stick to TOPCon as the dominant technology for the next 3-5 years, going up to TOPCon 5.0 (see Day 1: TaiyangNews High Efficiency Solar Technologies 2024 Conference).

AIKO wins WFEO-CEE Award for carbon neutrality

Leading solar energy solutions company AIKO Solar was awarded the 1st prize for Excellence in Carbon Neutrality Technology and Applications in Building and Environment by the WFEO-CEE and the China Society for Urban Studies’ Renewable Energy and Carbon Neutral Building Committee. The award recognizes AIKO’s contributions to the Zhuhai Civic Service Center project, one of China’s first zero-carbon-designed public buildings, operational since July. AIKO spearheaded the project’s rooftop PV system and developed a proprietary carbon emission management platform, offering comprehensive carbon data monitoring as a key tool for achieving zero-carbon management.

Recently, AIKO Solar was also named one of the ‘Top 10 Typical Cases of National Governance Innovation (High-Quality Development)’ for 2024 (see China Solar PV News Snippets).

CNBM signs 300 MW CdTe thin-film solar glass plant

Chengdu CNBM Photovoltaic Materials Co., Ltd., a China National Building Material Group subsidiary, has signed an agreement for its 300 MW cadmium telluride (CdTe) thin-film solar glass factory. Located in Binzhou City, Shaanxi Province, the project will involve an investment of RMB 2.7 billion ($379.84 million) and span 4 phases across 4.67 hectares. Upon completion, it will have an annual production capacity of 300 MW of CdTe solar glass, which includes 3.2 mm CdTe glass and laminated glass capable of replacing traditional building curtain walls while providing integrated power generation and energy-saving benefits.

Xiamen C&D takes over Suntech

According to Chinese media, Fei Wu, Chairman of JinenU Solar, has confirmed his resignation as Chairman of Suntech. He indirectly affirmed that Suntech has been placed under the management of Xiamen C&D Corporation. In November 2023, Fei Wu assumed the role of Chairman at Suntech. However, mounting industry losses and operational difficulties have forced Suntech to halt production. The management arrangement with Xiamen C&D allows the latter to oversee operations without providing direct financial support.

Last month, it was reported that Xiamen C&D would provide industrial support to Zhongli Group’s restructuring plan (see China Solar PV News Snippets).
