Europe Solar PV News Snippets: Tse Raises €65 Million for 800 MW Agrivoltaic Capacity & More

€1 billion EIB financing for Naturgy’s Spanish assets; Iberdrola’s €800 million hybrid green bond & corporate PPA in Portugal; RWE & partners commission German floating PV research project; Jinko ESS expanding in the Netherlands; Shuangliang bags British certification.

Eiffel financing for agrivoltaic: French independent power producer (IPP) and agrivoltaics company TSE has raised €65 million from Eiffel Investment Group to support the development of around 800 MW capacity. Eiffel has announced this bond financing through its energy transition infrastructure debt funds Eiffel Energy Transition III and the FCPRs MAIF Rendement Vert, Allianz Transition Energétique, and Eiffel Infrastructures Vertes.

EIB’s €1 billion financing: The European Investment Bank (EIB) has approved a €1 billion loan for Spain’s Naturgy to invest in new solar and onshore wind power stations. It will also enable the company to modernize and convert existing sites into hybrid facilities in Spain. The bank has agreed to an initial €400 million tranche. It says the investment will help Naturgy increase renewable energy generation capacity in the country by 2.3 GW.

€800 million hybrid green bond: Spanish renewable energy company Iberdrola has placed €800 million hybrid green bond in the Euromarket. The proceeds will be used to refinance renewable assets allocated to the 2019 hybrid that it will replace. The company claims demand reached more than €3 billion for this issue, and 3.75 times oversubscribed with interest from more than 200 international investors. These are mainly from Europe and the UK. Previously, Iberdrola issued such debt in January 2023.

Portuguese corporate PPA: Iberdrola has secured a 10-year power purchase agreement (PPA) for 92 GWh of solar energy supply to Portuguese ceramics company Gres Panaria Portugal. This agreement will bring price and generation stability for Gres Panaria, while also reducing its carbon footprint.

PV2Float research project in Germany: Germany’s RWE AG, Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems (ISE), and Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus-Senftenberg (BTU) have commissioned a floating PV research project in Germany. Sponsored by the German Federal Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Action, the plant is now online on the Mortkasee artificial lake in Lohsa, Saxony. The PV2Float project aims to explore the extent to which floating solar islands can be implemented and operated in harmony with aquatic ecology. The project comprises 3 different floating solar islands on the Mortkasee lake with 30 kW rated capacity each. During its operational period till the end of 2027, the team will aim to understand the various technological solutions, how their costs can be reduced and how larger floating solar installations can be implemented in harmony with the environment in the future.

Jinko ESS in the Netherlands: JinkoSolar’s energy storage arm Jinko ESS has completed its maiden European installation for the C&I segment in the Netherlands. It installed 5 SunGiga All in One 215 kWh advanced battery energy storage systems (BESS) at Koelbedrijf Cornelissen, a prominent refrigeration business in the Netherlands. This will help the latter cut its energy costs while reducing reliance on the grid. The Head of ESS Europe at JinkoSolar Roberto Murgioni said this installation is expected to be a reference for future BESS deployments across Europe.

British certification for Chinese company: Shuangliang Silicon Materials has secured ISO 14064 Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emission Verification Statement Certificate from the British Standards Institution (BSI). Calling it a green ID card, Shuangliang said it secured the certification after extensive evaluation from BSI, that verifies the GHG emissions of the company’s monocrystalline silicon rods in their design and transport logistics. This certificate win follows Shuangliang getting the carbon footprint certification of the French Environment and Energy Control Agency (ADEME) in June 2023.
