7.3 GW new capacity for APS: Arizona, US based electric utility Arizona Public Service (APS) has signed agreements to add close to 7.3 GW of renewable energy, battery storage and natural gas capacity to its energy mix, making it the company’s largest-ever planned addition of new power sources. These deals were signed through its 2023 All Source Request for Proposals (ASRFP), and also includes projects it plans to add on its own. This comprises nearly 2.48 GW of solar energy, 3.46 GW of battery storage, and 500 MW of wind energy resources.

5.5 GW solar and storage partnership: Renewable energy company RWE has joined hands with the US coal producer Peabody to repurpose reclaimed land previously used for mining in the US for over 5.5 GW solar and battery storage projects. These facilities will be spread across Indiana and Illinois regions in the US. As part of this partnership, RWE is acquiring a majority interest in R3 Renewables LLC, alongside its founding partner Peabody. The latter launched R3 along with Summit Partners Credit Advisors and Riverstone Credit Partners to repurpose land it previously used for coal mining. RWE is acquiring Summit and Riverstone’s equity interest in R3. RWE says it will acquire 7 projects of the 10-project pipeline and enter into a JV with Peabody to continue the development of the 3 remaining projects.

517 MW DC changes hands: German renewable energy company BayWa r.e. has sold off its 3 solar projects representing a combined 517 MW DC capacity in the US. Acquired by an unidentified privately held independent power producer (IPP), these projects in the PJM and MISO regions will enter commercial operations by the end of 2025. This represented the largest portfolio sale in the history of the BayWa Group, according to BayWa r.e. Americas CEO Fred Robinson.

PPAs signed for 195 MW: AMPYR Energy USA (AEUSA) has signed long-term PPAs for 2 utility-scale projects with 195 MW of combined capacity in South Carolina, US. Duke Energy as the offtaker will also procure 4 hours of energy storage for one of the projects. Both the projects are at an advanced stage, and will power close to 30,000 homes on completion, it added. AEUSA is a joint venture (JV) between AGP Group and Hartree Partners.

New CFO for Vesper: US-based renewable energy company Vesper Energy has appointed Krish Koomar as the company’s new chief financial officer (CFO).
