Armenian capital of Yerevan now hosts the country’s 1st floating solar PV plant with 150-kW installed capacity after it was commissioned by France’s NEPSEN on the Yerevan Lake. Backed by the French government, the project is part of the city’s plans to go for 100% green energy consumption.

The French government reportedly supported the floating solar project with a grant of €800,000.

According to Yerevan City Government, the station was built as an initiative of the Armenian Renewable Energy and Energy Saving Fund (R2E2). The decision to implement the project was taken after technical and environmental studies were completed.

Optimum Energy won a competitive tender to win construction rights for the project, according to local media reports.

In July 2021, Abu Dhabi’s Masdar also won the right to develop a 200 MW utility-scale project in Talin and Dashtadem for $0.0290/kWh winning bid.
