Last month, Honor teased the launch of a tough smartphone with a durable build. The teaser had a big “C” with the color and finish of a regular smartphone landing on rocky ground. We had been expecting this phone to be a successor to the Honor X9b, which is durable but still stylish. Now, Honor confirmed the new smartphone as the Honor X9c. It is advertised as Honor’s toughest smartphone yet and packs a larger battery than the B-variant.
Honor X9c Specifications and Features
The Honor X9c is rated for 2m (6.6ft) drop resistance and is the first in SGS’ Comprehensive Reliability charts. The exterior is scratch-resistant and the phone has been tested by getting rubbed with steel wool 3,000 times. The phone can operate in extreme temperatures of -30°C to 55°C. The phone is rated IP65M and apparently, the M stands for 360-degree protection from water jets. While Honor has some IP69-rated models, we can say that the combination of all protections makes the Honor X9c the most durable or resistant Honor smartphone.
Another highlight of this smartphone is the battery capacity. It has a huge 6,600mAh battery which stands as an 800 mAh upgrade over the 5,800 mAh battery inside the Honor X9b. The fast-charging technology also has a nice boot from 35W to 66W.
A powerful Battery and Stunning Display
According to Honor, the smartphone can withstand 26 hours of online video playback. Of course, real-life usage will bring different results, but this battery certainly will last a full day even with huge usage. The other specs are fairly similar to the Honor X9c. The smartphone has a 6.78-inch curved OLED screen with 2,700 x 1,224 pixels of resolution. The panel renders 10-bit colors with a higher brightness than before – up to 4,000 nits. The phone also has 3,840 Hz PWM dimming.

In terms of optics, the handset has a 108 MP camera with 1/1.67″ sensor. It has a 0.64µm pixel, which can be binned 9-t0-1 for 1.92µm effective pixels or used in 3x lossless in-sensor zoom. The camera also has an f/1.75 lens with OIS and supports 4K video recording. The other camera on the back is a modest 5 MP ultrawide shooter with f/2.2 aperture. The selfie camera is a 16 MP snapper with 1080p video recording. Honor opted for a not-so-popular pill-shaped cutout.
The Honor X9c is available now in several regions. In Malaysia, there is a 12 GB/256GB model that goes for MYR 1,500 ($345) and a 12GB/512GB one for MYR 1,700. The smartphone is on pre-order in Singapore (shipping in 7 days) with a price of SGD 450 ($340) for a 12GB/256GB model.
