  • IEO says Poland exited 2023 with a cumulative PV capacity of more than 17 GW
  • Between January and December 2023, it added around 5 GW of new capacity
  • The highest increase was seen in the category of solar farms with more than 30 MW capacity

At the end of 2023, Poland’s total installed solar PV capacity exceeded 17 GW, according to the Polish research institute Instytut Energetyki Odnawialnej (IEO). It says the country’s annual PV additions increased by 41% compared to last year.

It had earlier announced over 12 GW of cumulative PV installed capacity for Poland at the end of 2022. The 41% annual increase takes its capacity to 17.057 GW till December 31, 2023, which means the country added some 5 GW last year.

Out of the new PV installations in 2023, the maximum capacity was contributed by solar farms of more than 30 MW capacity for a total of 873 MW, says IEO.

The cumulative PV capacity of Poland makes up the lion’s share among other renewable energy sources. According to IEO, wind installations added up to 9.4 GW, hydropower 949 MW, biomass 982 MW and biogas 294 MW at the end of 2023.

IEO makes these assertions in its report Operating Photovoltaic Installations in Poland 2024, which can be purchased from its website

The association had previously forecast over 6 GW of annual additions in 2023, and a total of 14.4 GW during 2023 to 2025 (see Polish Solar Installations On Growth Path).
