1. The overall import and export situation
A crane refers to a multi-action machine that vertically and horizontally moves heavy objects within a certain range. It is also known as an overhead crane, a gantry crane, or simply a crane.
China is a major manufacturing country. In recent years, the export quantity of Chinese cranes has remained relatively stable, changing from 4537 units in 2018 to 6161 units in 2021. However, the export value has been continuously declining, from 284.395 million USD in 2018 to 195.018 million USD in 2021. On the other hand, the import quantity and value have shown an increasing trend. From January to September 2022, China exported 4719 cranes with an export value of 204.707 million USD and imported 138 cranes with an import value of 14.95 million USD.
2. Breakdown of import and export
In terms of export quantity, China’s crane exports are mainly general overhead cranes. From January to September 2022, the export quantity of other fixed support high-rise mobile cranes in China was 1,548 units, with an export value of 40.4 million USD. The export quantity of general overhead cranes was 3,171 units, 1,623 units higher than that of other fixed support high-rise mobile cranes, with an export value of 164.306 million USD, much higher than the export value of other fixed support high-rise mobile cranes.
From January to September 2022, the import quantity of China’s other fixed support high-rise mobile cranes was 28 units, with an import value of 3.734 million USD. The import quantity of general overhead cranes was 110 units, 82 units more than other fixed support high-rise mobile cranes, with an import value of 11.216 million USD, which was 7.482 million USD higher than other fixed support high-rise mobile cranes.
In terms of average import and export prices, the average import unit price of China is much higher than the export price. From January to September 2022, the average export unit price of Chinese cranes was 43,379 USD per unit, while the average import unit price was 108,333 USD per unit, much higher than the export price.
3. Analysis of import and export patterns
From January to September 2022, the top 5 regions for China’s crane exports were Indonesia, India, Vietnam, Bangladesh, and the Russian Federation, with export values of 75.45 million USD, 19.203 million USD, 11.768 million USD, 9.865 million USD, and 5.678 million USD, respectively.
Zhejiang, Henan, and Jiangsu provinces are major regions for China’s crane exports. From January to September 2022, Zhejiang province had the highest amount of crane exports in the country, with an export value of 37.046 million USD. Henan province ranked second with an export value of 27.758 million USD. These two provinces are the most important provinces for China’s crane exports.
In terms of import value, Germany was the largest exporter of cranes to China. From January to September 2022, China imported cranes worth 5.642 million USD from Germany, accounting for 38% of the total import value. The import of cranes from Luxembourg amounted to 4.44 million USD, accounting for 30% of the total import amount.
