Lenovo Unveils New Gaming Laptop With RTX 5090 at CES 2025

At CES 2025, Lenovo showcased a variety of new products.

In addition to the retractable flexible screen laptop, dual-screen laptop, and SteamOS gaming handheld, there was another computer that caught attention.

Lenovo introduced the Legion Pro 7i gaming laptop, which can be equipped with NVIDIA’s newly released RTX 5090 graphics card at CES 2025.

The RTX 5090 graphics card is based on the Blackwell architecture, inheriting the advantages of the previous Ada Lovelace architecture while optimizing for generative AI, deep learning, and high-performance computing.

Specifically, the RTX 5090 graphics card has been upgraded in two main areas. First, the number of CUDA cores has increased to 21,760. Second, the Tensor cores have been enhanced, boosting AI performance and deep learning capabilities. The Blackwell architecture supports the latest deep learning super sampling technology, DLSS 4, which can generate up to three additional frames for each traditional frame, increasing the frame rate by up to eight times compared to traditional rendering. The RT cores have also been upgraded, enhancing the game’s resolution, frame rate, and ray tracing performance.

Regarding the Blackwell architecture and DLSS 4 technology, Jensen Huang said during the CES keynote:

“The new generation of DLSS not only generates frames but also predicts the future. We achieved AI with GeForce, and now AI is transforming GeForce.”

The RTX 5090 features 92 billion transistors, 32GB of GDDR7 memory, and a bandwidth of 1,792GB/s. Thanks to DLSS 4 technology and Blackwell architecture optimization, this graphics card’s performance is twice that of the previous RTX 4090, effortlessly handling large 3D games, AI computations, and complex graphic tasks.

Additionally, the Legion Pro 7i is equipped with Intel’s latest Core Ultra 275HX processor. This processor is based on the latest Arrow Lake architecture, built with a 3 nm process, featuring 8 performance cores and 16 efficiency cores, with a design power of 55W. Paired with the RTX 5090, it provides stable and smooth performance under various high-load tasks.

For gaming laptops to harness powerful performance, the biggest challenge is cooling.

Lenovo has equipped the Legion Pro 7i with a Hyper cooling chamber. Through a vapor chamber design and efficient fan combination, it supports up to 250W TDP cooling, ensuring stability during prolonged high-load operations and preventing performance degradation due to overheating.

In addition to the graphics card and processor, the Lenovo Legion Pro 7i features a 16-inch OLED display with a 240 Hz variable refresh rate. On the left side of the body, there is an HDMI 2.1 port, a USB-A 3.2 Gen2 port, a USB-C port supporting 140W fast charging, and a USB-C port supporting Thunderbolt 4. On the right side, there are two USB-A 3.2 Gen1 ports, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and a 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet port. It supports 140W fast charging, allowing it to charge from 0-80% in just 30 minutes, with a full charge lasting up to 8 hours.

In addition to the flagship model, Lenovo has also launched the Legion Pro 5 series, offering more configuration options. The Legion Pro 5 is equipped with an AMD Ryzen 9 9955HX processor, providing balanced single-core and multi-core performance suitable for various gaming needs. It uses the Coldfront Hyper cooling technology featured in the 2024 Legion 7i, supporting a 200W TDP, balancing performance and cost control.

Moreover, all models come with the AI Engine+ intelligent adjustment system. This system dynamically adjusts the power distribution between the CPU and GPU based on gaming scenarios, prioritizing graphics card performance under high load and optimizing power consumption balance under low load, while managing the cooling system to enhance the overall user experience.

The Lenovo Legion Pro 7i is priced at $2399.99, and the Legion Pro 5i is priced at $1449.99, both available in March.

High-performance gaming laptop with AI capabilities.

In today’s rapidly advancing AI landscape, gaming laptops are not just for gaming needs; their powerful performance can also handle AI development, deep learning, and other broader fields.

With the improvement in graphics card performance and the widespread adoption of AI scenarios, high-performance laptops are transitioning from a gaming-centric focus to a multifunctional platform that accommodates both “gaming + AI.”

It is foreseeable that for a long time to come, these machines equipped with high-performance graphics cards will continue to be the primary solution for meeting dual-domain demands.
