The Pixel 9 series has expanded with four new devices, including the Pixel 9 Pro Fold, a significant upgrade over the first-generation Pixel Fold. This new model stands out with its improved design, making it both taller and slimmer. The 9 Pro Fold’s square shape is 15.5mm taller than its predecessor, even surpassing Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold6 in height.
Pixel 9 Pro Fold: Bigger Screens, Sleeker Design, and Top-Notch Hinge
The Pixel 9 Pro Fold measures 10.5mm thick when folded and just 5.1mm when unfolded. It also weighs less, at 257 grams, making it more comfortable to use. A key design enhancement is the hinge, which now unfolds completely flat—a feature the first-gen model lacked. Additionally, it has IPX8 water resistance, enhancing its durability.
The new dimensions of the Pixel 9 Pro Fold allow for larger screens. The device features a 6.3-inch cover display and an 8-inch foldable display, both of which are OLED panels with FHD+ resolution. These screens support adaptive 120Hz refresh rates and deliver up to 2,700 nits of peak brightness. Both displays also include 10MP selfie cameras.
The rear camera setup on the Fold is capable, though not drastically different from the previous model. It includes a 48MP main camera, a 10.5MP telephoto lens with 5x optical zoom, and a 12MP ultrawide camera.
Revamped Pixel 9 Pro Fold Offers More Screen and Less Weight
Under the hood, the 9 Pro Fold is powered by Google’s new Tensor G4 chipset, built on Samsung’s 4nm process. This processor includes one Cortex-X4 core at 3.1GHz, three Cortex-A720 cores at 2.6GHz, and four Cortex-A520 cores at 1.95GHz. The device offers up to 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage.
The Pixel 9 Pro Fold comes with Android 14 and new AI features like on-device Gemini Nano, improved Magic Editor, and the Add Me function for inserting people into photos. It also guarantees seven years of software updates. The device comes with a 4,650 mAh battery, which Google claims will provide 24 hours of normal use, with wired charging capped at 21W.
The Fold is available in Porcelain and Obsidian colors. It costs $1,799/€1,899/£1,749 for the 256GB version and $1,919/€2,029/£1,869 for the 512GB model. Google is offering free storage upgrades for orders placed by September 5, with deliveries starting on September 4.
