As promised, Oppo is finally here with its new flagships – the Oppo Find X9 and X9 Pro. The new smartphones arrived today, packing excellent specifications including the brand-new Dimensity 9500 chipset. While we’ve been seeing some Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 smartphones in the pipeline, the wave of flagships featuring MediaTek’s latest flagship CPU is finally upon us. After the Vivo X300 series, the Find X-series is once again here to reaffirm a solid partnership between the Taiwanese chipmaker and the Chinese brand.
Oppo Find X9 and Find X9 Pro Unveiled With a Big Performance Boost
Following a current trend in the industry, Oppo unveiled today a mid-sized model and a large one. The Oppo Find X9 is the compact model, whereas the Oppo Find X9 Pro has a larger display and some extra tweaks in the hardware. Considering the brand’s work with the Find X8 series, we can still expect a luxury model dubbed Oppo Find X9 Ultra, and even a small Oppo Find X9S model. For now, let’s focus in the models that are already available in the market.
Under the hood, the Oppo Find X9 and Find X9 Pro carry the MediaTek Dimensity 9500 CPU. For those unaware, the new SoC has a 32% faster CPU, 33% faster GPU, and a faster NPU providing up to 111% more performance. While MediaTek’s flagship SoCs impress with their raw power thanks to the use of performance cores, the Dimensity 9500 also brings great gains in efficiency. Its CPU, GPU, and NPU, respectively, are 55%, 42% and 56% more efficient.
A Gorgeous Display With Outstanding Design
Both Oppo Find X9 and X9 Pro models have 120Hz OLED panels that can reach up to 1,800 nits of full-screen brightness and up to 3,600 nits peak brightness with the outdoor mode. They can also go all the way down to just 1 nit for checking your phone at night. The latter is particularly welcome for those who need to check the phone in a dark room and don’t want to get blinded by a surge of light.
The two phones come with water resistance with IP66 (water jets), IP68 (submersion) and IP69 (hot water jets).
Faster Ultrasonic Fingerprint Scanner, Huge Battery with Fast-Charging
Both panels come with ultrasonic fingerprint scanners that sit under the display. This is a great improvement over the optical reader seen on the Oppo Find X8 series. Users will experience faster unlock speeds thanks to this tech.
The Oppo Find X9 comes with a 6.59-inch screen, the same size as its predecessor. Despite its “smaller display,” the vanilla comes with a massive upgrade in battery, thanks to the new Si-C tech. It has a huge 7,025 mAh battery, which is nearly 25% larger than its predecessor, the Oppo Find X8 with its 5,630mAh battery. The charging speed is the same, but do you think an upgrade is really needed with 80W wired charging and 50W wireless charging? The device even offers 10W reverse charging.
The Find X9 Pro comes with a larger 6.78-inch screen and has a 7,600mAh battery. That is 1,590mAh more than the Find X8 Pro. Similar to vanilla, the charging system remains the same here. The phone has 90W wired charging, 50W wireless charging, and 10W reverse. As per Oppo, the battery health is at least 80% after 5 years of use.
Powerful Cameras With Hasselblad Branding
The camera department has been a target of focus for the Oppo Find X-series in the past years. Hence, the Find X9 series brings significant upgrades in this area. Starting with the Pro, the device has a 50 MP Sony LYT-828 camera, a 1/1.28″ sensor. It is larger and a couple of generations ahead of the X8 Pro camera (LYT-808). The device has a better lens too, an f/1.5 7-element lens with OIS. Oppo has chosen a new default for the camera – a 50 MP mode, instead of the usual 12 MP shooter.
The high-end model has a 200 MP Hasselblad camera with a 1.1.56″ snapper with pixel-level calibration and DCG-HDR (Dual Conversion Gain). The pixels are sampled twice for each photo. The sensor sits behind a Hasselblad-certified 70mm lens with an f/2.1 aperture. It has a Prism Hybrid OIS with Active Optical Alignment. For comparison, the X8 Pro’s 73mm tele camera had a smaller 50 MP snapper with 1/1.95 lens.
There are improvements in the video capture. Instead of long-form videos, users can capture Motion Photos. If you want a longer video, you can capture high-quality footage with a log mode or using Dolby Vision. All cameras can record 4K 60fps Dolby Vision videos. The main and telephoto cameras can go up to 4K 120fps.
The Find X9 features a 50 MP main camera using the old Pro’s sensor. It has a 1/1.4″ LYT-808 with an f/1.6 lens with OIS. For comparison, the X8 had a smaller 50MP 1/1.56″ LYT-700 sensor with a narrowed f/1.8 aperture.
This is joined by a 50 MP 73mm periscope based on the 1/1.95″ LYT-600 sensor. This is the same as last year, but we can expect improvements coming from the new software and advanced algorithms. Finally, the phone has a 50 MP 15mm ultra-wide module. Oppo equipped the phone with a True Color Camera, a 9-channel multi-spectral sensor.
A New Teleconverter Accessory
Oppo and Hasselblad developed a teleconverter accessory. As the name implies, it’s an add-on lens with 12 glass elements and boosts optical zoom to 10x for photos and up to 200x digital zoom. The video zoom goes up to 50x with good quality. For now, the accessory is available only for the Oppo Find X9 Pro.
5 Years of Android Updates
The Find X9 series comes with ColorOS 16, based on Android 16. Oppo promises 5 OS updates and a total of 6 years of security patches. The device has deep integration with Google’s Gemini AI, in addition to in-house AI features, like denoising for the camera. It comes with AI portrait glow, an AI Recorder, and an AI Mind Space. One interesting detail is that ColorOS 16 natively supports pairing with an Apple Watch.
