Vivo marked its 30th anniversary in Dongguan with a major showcase that signals where the company is heading in the next decade. At the Vision Launch Event & Imaging Grand Ceremony, Vivo introduced its first mixed reality headset, the Vision Discovery Edition, while also unveiling a wide-reaching upgrade to its imaging technology strategy and culture ecosystem.
First Chinese Smartphone Maker to Enter MR
The Vivo Vision Discovery Edition represents four years of development and is being presented as a bridge between smartphones and the emerging world of spatial computing. Vivo claims the headset is the first MR product created by a Chinese smartphone manufacturer, placing it among the few brands globally with a foot in both smartphones and immersive wearables.

Vivo says the device addresses the toughest challenges in mixed reality, including perception, interaction, and computational performance. Weighing 398 grams, the headset is about 26 percent smaller than the industry average, with a height of 83 mm and a thickness of 40 mm. To improve comfort, the company designed four different light seal sizes and eight foam padding options, based on human factors research.
Vivo Vision Discovery Edition: Features and Technology
The Vision Discovery Edition runs on OriginOS Vision, which shifts away from traditional touch-based input to more natural controls. Users can interact with digital information that blends into the surrounding environment through “move and pinch” gestures. The headset supports 1.5° eye-tracking precision, 26 degrees of fingertip gesture recognition, and a 175° vertical tracking range for fluid control.
For visuals, the headset uses dual Micro-OLED displays with 8K binocular resolution, 94 percent DCI-P3 coverage, and DeltaE<2 color accuracy. Vivo says it calibrated brightness and chromaticity across both lenses to minimize visual discomfort. Powering it all is Qualcomm’s Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 platform, offering up to 2.5 times better GPU performance and 8 times higher AI performance over the previous generation.
Vivo envisions the headset as a hub for entertainment, gaming, and productivity. It can simulate a 120-foot virtual cinema screen for movies, while sports and esports fans will be able to watch events from multiple angles or use split-screen mode without missing any details.
Imaging Strategy and ZEISS Partnership
Beyond hardware, Vivo announced a new phase in its imaging strategy, which focuses on creating a scenario-based ecosystem. This includes improvements in night photography, portraits, telephoto, and video, alongside efforts to make professional imaging more accessible.

Vivo renewed its global partnership with ZEISS, celebrating five years of working together on better optics and promising more projects in the future. The company also showed off its progress in imaging tech, including the VS1 pre-processing chip, the V3+ imaging chip, and the BlueImage × Samsung HP9 200MP telephoto sensor. With AI tools like AI Photo Enhance and smart reconstruction, Vivo wants to raise the bar for mobile photography quality.
Expanding Imaging Culture
Vivo also talked about photography as more than just taking pictures, calling it a cultural movement. The company showed projects like the “Capture the Future” short film contest with UNESCO and a national mobile photography show with the China Photographers Association. These efforts aim to give young creators a stage and show that mobile photography can be real art.
At the event, Vivo announced the winners of the 2025 VISION+ Mobile PhotoAwards. The contest got over 500,000 entries from around the world, all taken on Vivo phones, highlighting real moments and modern life.

A Century-Long Ambition
During the keynote, Hu Baishan, Vivo’s Executive Vice President and COO, looked back at the company’s progress. He said Vivo’s story isn’t just about past achievements, but about thirty years of effort and persistence. The company’s goal is to use technology to bring out beauty, reach more users, and build a business that lasts for a century.
With its new Vision Discovery Edition headset and a bigger focus on imaging, Vivo showed that its future goes beyond smartphones. The company is also moving into spatial computing and next-generation imaging experiences.
