On April 26, 2023, DelphiLaser released its 2022 annual performance and project investment announcement. In 2022, the company achieved operating revenue of 568 million RMB, an increase of 3.48% compared to the same period last year; the net profit attributable to shareholders of the listed company decreased by 23.16% compared to the previous year.

Due to various factors such as the macro environment and economic conditions, the company’s revenue growth has slowed down. In the first quarter of 2023, the company’s revenue was approximately 97.85 million RMB, and the net profit attributable to shareholders of the listed company was approximately 4.79 million RMB.

The company plans to invest 1.08 billion RMB to build a new energy high-end laser equipment production line

DelphiLaser will construct the new energy high-end equipment project through its wholly-owned subsidiary, Jiangsu DelphiLaser New Energy Co., Ltd. The project will include the construction of a new energy high-end laser equipment production line with an annual output of 420 sets and the establishment of a research and development center in Jiangyin. The investment in the project is 1.08 billion RMB, with an initial investment of 80 million RMB and subsequent investments to be made in batches according to the project’s construction needs.

After the project is completed, it will mainly produce laser intelligent equipment related to power batteries, energy storage batteries, crystalline silicon solar cells, thin-film solar cells, and other related products. This decision by DelphiLaser is based on its assessment of the current market situation and industry prospects, taking into account existing business and strategic development. The goal is to accelerate the company’s future strategic layout and enhance supporting capacity, in line with the needs of business expansion, which will benefit the company’s development in the field of new energy applications, and improve its profitability and core competitiveness.

The sales revenue of DelphiLaser’s new energy business layout was 49.7345 million RMB

In 2022, DelphiLaser’s sales revenue of precision laser processing equipment was 426 million RMB, an increase of 5.60% year-on-year. Based on its previous experience in the semiconductor, display panel, and new electronic fields, the company has started to expand its precision laser processing equipment into the new energy application field.

Of the total sales revenue, semiconductor and optical laser processing equipment achieved sales revenue of 150 million RMB, a decrease of 8.39% compared to the same period last year, mainly due to the impact of the decline in end-demand on the optical filter glass wafer processing equipment business, which decreased by 39.72% year-on-year.

The sales revenue of new electronic laser processing equipment was 129 million RMB, a decrease of 0.58% year-on-year. The company has gradually shifted its focus from 3C consumer electronics applications to automotive electronics applications in the electronic application field and has obtained new product line orders from mainstream automakers and top-tier suppliers in the automotive supply chain.

The sales revenue of the display laser processing equipment was 68.5529 million RMB, a decrease of 14.09% year-on-year, mainly due to the company’s strategic adjustments to shrink its business lines in the display field and focus more resources on the semiconductor, automotive electronics, and new energy fields. In 2022, the company began to expand its business layout in the new energy field, achieving sales revenue of 49.7345 million RMB, mainly from laser plate-making equipment for printing mesh plates and production equipment for perovskite thin-film solar cells.

DelphiLaser has successfully delivered its first set of perovskite thin-film solar cell production equipment (megawatt-level) to customers and generated business revenue. In terms of research and development, the company’s independently developed laser cell anti-blue film equipment has passed customer tests and received the first order from a top-tier customer, and the relevant technology has been applied for authorized patents.

In addition, the company’s silicon carbide ingot laser slicing technology has completed process development and test verification and has obtained bulk orders from top-tier customers. The MicroLED laser peeling, mass transfer, and mass repair technologies have achieved significant progress as well. The MicroLED laser peeling and laser repair equipment has been delivered to customers and generated revenue, while the MicroLED laser mass transfer equipment has received orders from top-tier customers.

The revenue from laser sales declined, but the fiber optic series achieved a sales breakthrough

Currently, DelphiLaser has the core technology and industrial-grade mature products of nanosecond, ultrafast (picosecond, femtosecond), and tunable pulse-width solid-state lasers. In 2022, the company’s laser sales revenue reached 41.2147 million RMB, a year-on-year decrease of 27.81%, mainly due to the impact of the macro environment, economic environment, and other factors. The overall downstream demand slowed down in 2022.

The gross profit margin of nanosecond lasers in the sales revenue of laser devices has decreased due to fierce market competition. However, lasers such as picosecond, femtosecond, and tunable pulse width still maintain high profitability. At the same time, the company’s new product line, the fiber optic series (AFL fiber femtosecond laser), has achieved a sales breakthrough. While exploring new markets, DelphiLaser has further strengthened its investment in research and development of new products and technologies, resulting in a 44.63% increase in R&D expenses compared to the same period last year, which has affected the company’s net profit growth rate.

In 2022, the company’s picosecond deep ultraviolet laser, picosecond infrared 100W laser, and femtosecond ultraviolet 30W laser won multiple industry awards in the field of high-power ultrafast lasers. In addition to the solid-state laser product line, the company has also completed the development of multiple fiber lasers, including an all-fiber femtosecond laser, a QCW fiber laser, and a MOPA fiber laser. These have passed long-term reliability verification and will be gradually introduced into laser processing equipment in the company’s new energy and other fields in 2023, to further enhance the company’s competitiveness in fiber laser microprocessing applications.
